Fist weekend with my host family: A trip to Talcahuano by Lizz Keller

I am staying with a rather small family: my host sister, Feña, and her parents. They welcomed me Saturday morning very warmly and graciously, if a bit quietly (they don't know much English, and I barely know any Spanish--Google translate is our best friend!). My second day with them, they took me to Talcahuano, the port of Concepción. It was a very beautiful day to be outdoors--warm and sunny!

From the walkway, we could see some of the sea lions, who look as if they were modelling for everyone as they basked in the sun.

We headed out on the water on a small boat tour that highlighted the Huascar, a nearby mine, several other military boats, and the sea wall where there were many more sea lions!
The sea lions were pretty smelly, but quite cool to see, especially because we were able to get quite close!
