Week 2 in Chile - Alicia Monroe

My second week in Chile proved to be another fun one.  Last weekend, my family went to Chillan in the mountains and it was incredible.  I didn't imagine that I would be hanging out in the Andes this summer.  We had a great time going for walks and exploring the area.  I also helped my host parents make lunch on Sunday-my host father said it was good practice, since I'm not the best cook (yet!).

Tuesday was a pretty busy day.  I worked on recording the school song in 3 parts throughout the day.  Then we had the professional development workshop in the evening.  Our group led a workshop in incorporating the arts into non-art content areas.  We wanted to have all the teachers engaged and involved as much as possible.  Everyone seemed to have a fun time.  Part of our workshop included having the teachers come up with songs or posters and some of the teachers ended up rapping and singing-we loved it!

Yesterday was another amazing day.  We went to Chiflon del Diablo in Lota.  Our guide, Daniel, was really happy to share his life and experiences with us.  He used to be a miner before the mines were closed and now he's a tour guide.  First, we went down this rickety elevator-like thing and that was probably the most nerve wracking part.  Afterwards, we started walking and ended up under the sea! We were pretty excited about that.  At one point in time, Daniel had us turn out our head lamps so we could see how scary it was for some of the miners when that happened.  The entire experience was awesome and I'm so glad I went.

We're getting close to starting our last week and I know it will be a busy one with an English song festival that Jason and I will be judging.  I can't believe the last week is almost upon us! I'm excited to see what it will bring.
